It's French Homeschool’s 2nd Birthday so I wanted to post an update on our French progress!
Jubilee is almost 5.5 yrs old and still enjoying French. We finished a first pass through the alphabet for Letter a Day, though it was very informal. We simply read a mini book about each letter and listened to a Phonics Song, which are a new favorite here! I tried having her write each letter too but after a couple days she wasn’t interested and I’m fine with waiting until she is ready.
Our “Experiment” with Eden, i.e. speaking more French to her from an earlier age than we did with Jubilee, has mostly flopped! We have a unique situation living in West Africa where her African Nanny only speaks the local language to her. And at almost 2.5 yrs old, the African language is almost all that Eden speaks!
So I decided to wait to speak French to her since our family is her only English input. I’m not worried that she isn’t speaking much English yet because we will visit the US for 6 months soon where she will be surrounded by it. This experience is a good reminder about the importance of the frequency of language INPUT because it has a direct correlation to language OUTPUT.
