Didn't Speak French to Your Kids from Day 1? Don't Worry: You DIDN'T Miss the Boat! Photo by Pixabay I think I’m so passionate about teaching French to young kids because it works! Let me share our story. I wasn’t sure how teaching our kids 3 languages would go since we wanted them to learn English, French (the language of wider communication here in West Africa) and the local language. But our eldest, Jubilee, easily picked up the local language from her African nanny and friends so I decided to focus on French at home (French also has a more global audience and more resources available). The early years were the hardest because I didn’t want to give up speaking English, my heart language. Instead I tried to speak some French and play lots of French music. Brittany's Bilingual French Day in the Life (with a 4.5 and 1.5 yr old) For this season I’ve identified 4 priorities: my personal walk with God, help with our West African Bible Translation, teach French to my girls, and cooking . Reading Redeeming Your Time helped me order my days around how to best make those priorities happen, rather than just hoping there would be times when the girls entertain themselves so I could do them. I finally had a good schedule when Eden went from 2 naps to 1 . So after some trial and error (I’m sure you moms of littles can relate!) we’ve landed on a new rhythm for our bilingual days: Personal Photo 2025: African Tapestry 6-6:45 I still wake naturally at 6 although the girls are still asleep.
